No fruit is more associated with summer barbecues and beach picnics than watermelon.

Originating in the Kalahari Desert of Africa, watermelon are depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics. They were held in such esteem that their seeds have been found in the tombs of pharaohs.Watermelons were cultivated in Asia as early as the 9th century A.D. and introduced into Europe by the Moors in the 13th century. Traders carried watermelon along the Meditteranean and it is now part of the eponymous diet. More than 92% water, early explorers used watermelons as canteens.

Watermelon has many advantages of watermelon for your healthy weight loss summer diet. A two cup serving is only 80 calories. When you hydrate with watermelon, you are consuming vitamins A, B6 and C. The high water and fiber content provide satiation and aid weight loss. An additional benefit is that watermelon has more  lycopene, an anti oxident carotenoid,  than any other fruit or vegetable. A slice of watermelon before your meal will curb your appetite.
