Quinoa Salad with Grilled Peaches


Traveling in Croatia recently, I encountered many outdoor markets with stall after stall of gorgeous, delicious, just picked peaches. The photo at left shows peaches  from the Dolac Market in Zagreb.

But you don't have to go that far.  Peach season is at it's peak through August in California.  Ripe peaches can be identified by an open stem cavity and warm colors.  Buy them from a farmer's market to be assured they were not picked too soon.  At the San Francisco Ferry Building Farmer's Market, you may see peaches being grilled over open flames.

A great recipe for grilled peaches can be found at  the Sweet Potato Soul website.  Jenne Claiborne combines peaches, tomatoes, quinoa and spinach for an inventive salad that is delicious for a lunch or as an accompaniment to fish or chicken. Follow her illustrated directions and use a grill pan so as not to risk losing your fruit in the barbecue.

Thank you Marsha! Wow, this post makes me want to make that dish again. I just arrived from Thailand 2 days ago and I'm loving all of the fresh peaches here in Georgia where I'm visiting my family. I was in LA for a 20 hour layover the other day and was surprised to discover that California peaches rival our GA peaches in quality and taste. Yummy!
